My Topic:
I chose to research the emphasis placed on the SAT. Many colleges reject students who have great potential, but are not given the chance because of their low SAT scores. This topic is important to me because I struggled with the SAT test and as a result was denied from a few universities. My SAT scores were weighed more heavily by these universities although I was in the top 5% of my class and had a great deal of service learning hours.
Who I contacted:
I contacted Mr. Dale Bittinger, the Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation at UMBC.
I chose to write to Mr. Bittinger because I felt as if he had enough power to make a change.
Other choices:
When it came to writing a letter about this topic, some other choices were to write to the President of UMBC. Also, I could have written to another university such as University of Maryland-College Park.
My recommendations on getting involved:
If readers desire to get involved they should take steps towards talking to people in power within the educational system. Readers could write letters to the president or director of admissions at several universities.
Why I am completing this blog:
This is part of a class project for making a change. My classmates and I are writing about topics that we feel passionate about. We may be displeased with a current situation, so we write letters to those who can help change the situation. In order to see some other topics discussed by my classmates, go to studentprojectsmakechange.blogspot.com.
